Rideemaliyadda Divisional secretariat is situated in Mahiyangana electorate in Badulla district. It is a land scale about 420km2 . There are 42 Grama Niladhari Divisions and 170 villages. The total population is 62017.
Agriculture is the main source of income of Ridimaliyadda Divisional Secretariat. There is a dry climate in this area and in the dry climate, the main source of water for the agriculture is the Northeast Monsoon from September to February. The rest of the year is characterized by severe dry weather and severe drought.
The poverty rate of 51.8% is the second highest in Sri Lanka. Most of the people are under low income earners and the main problem related to them is lack of access to water for agriculture, employment opportunities and accessibility.
